2 cups fresh peaches, peeled and diced

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup buttermilk

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped (optional)

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions
 

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.

    In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

      Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

        In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

          Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

            Gently fold in the diced peaches and chopped nuts (if using) into the batter.

              Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top with a spatula.

                Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

                  Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
