Ingredients

4 slices of thick-cut brioche bread

2 large eggs

1/2 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Maple syrup, for serving

Fresh fruit (e.g., banana slices, strawberries) for garnish

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.

Dip each slice of brioche into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are evenly coated. Allow any excess to drip off.

In the preheated skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add the caramelized topping by sprinkling the brown sugar evenly across the skillet.

As the sugar begins to melt, sprinkle in the chopped nuts (if using) and stir gently until the sugar forms a bubbling caramel.

Place the soaked bread slices onto the caramel sauce and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown and caramelized. The bread should soak slightly in the caramel, making the bottom deliciously sticky.

Once done, transfer the French toast to a serving plate, drizzled lightly with maple syrup and garnished with fresh fruit.

Repeat with the remaining slices, adding more butter and caramel as needed.

Serve warm and enjoy your delightful caramelized French toast!
