Ingredients

1 (12-pack) Sweet Hawaiian Rolls

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 cup crushed pineapple (drained)

1/2 cup shredded coconut

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Powdered sugar, for dusting

Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Rolls: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Cut the Sweet Hawaiian Rolls in half horizontally and place the bottom halves in the baking dish, cut side up.

Mix the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

Layer Ingredients: Evenly spread the crushed pineapple and shredded coconut over the bottom halves of the rolls, and sprinkle the chopped pecans or walnuts on top if using. Place the top halves of the rolls back on.

Pour Custard: Slowly pour the egg mixture evenly over the entire dish, making sure to soak all the layers of the rolls. Gently press down on the rolls to help absorb the custard. Cover the dish with aluminum foil.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes covered, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

Serve: Allow to cool for a few minutes, then dust with powdered sugar. Cut into squares and serve warm with maple syrup on the side.
